Ford Raptor - The Big Boss Dog
I can't take another man seriously if he doesn't drink coffee or like the Ford Ranger Raptor. I bet there's these "I'll never buy a Ford" people who've seen the Ranger Raptor drive past them and know they'd buy it if able to. It is without a doubt the most radical bakkie on South African roads which isn't surprising as it comes from the trend-setting Ford stable who set it all off with the upgrade to the Ford Ranger in 2011, this is the natural progression for the dominant Ford Ranger. It was never an if but when Ford would take a Ranger and put it on a course of steroids and steak. I'm sure you'll agree we were happy with the Wildtrak, it was the bakkie dudes had as their background on their phones, the choice of bakkie if we won the lottery now the Raptor has taken over this one and rightly so, I mean look at it, it's an f-ing beast
283 mm Ground Clearance
When smashing it through the rough stuff you'll be thankful for the Watt's linkage this system allows the axel to move up and down with dampened lateral movement, adding to the impressive suspension setup is the coil-over suspension preferred to instead of the common leaf springs arrangement. Increasing the travel of the shock absorbers and remanufacturing the chassis incorporating suspension specialists Fox upped the travel by 32% in the front and 22% at the back making the Ranger Raptor seriously at home in the offroad, it gives you the confidence to push it a little harder than you'd normally, knowing you've got some A-Grade science keeping you upright. How does 283 mm of ground clearance sound? Which is a solid 51mm higher than a standard Ford Ranger, that's pretty impressive. The front and back brake callipers are massive and rightly so for what's needed to stop this large fast bakkie. What's really cool is the added grades of high-strength low-allow steel and a chunky steel bash plate give underbody protection, built to stand up to high impact off-roading encounters
157kW and 500Nm
Like a bodybuilder with its flared wheel arches which houses the 150mm widened track and the super-sized BF Goodrich 285/70 R17 all-terrain tyres, on black wheel rims the look of the Ranger Raptor looks imposing, to say the least. With 157kW and 500Nm is enough power for the tight foot to handle which will have you tow just about anything with the Ford Ranger Raptor
Baja Mode
Baja mode aptly named after the Baja Desert Rally is the mode that adds a little chub to your life when on gravel as it loosens up the traction control to give the driver the option to power slide around some gentle bends, the Baja mode also tightens up the steering and gear shifting in the 10-speed auto gearbox.
Mid Morning Snack
Live in an area of South Africa with a lot of speed bumps, the Ranger Raptor eats them for mid-morning snack, you look forward to them. The reverse camera helps in tight spots but a little forward planning when parking in confined spaces, the Ranger Raptor is the big uncle in the family and you need to make sure he doesn't bump his head
